With Hil in no hurry,
debate likely history

BY HELEN KENNEDY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
The only scheduled debate in the Democratic Senate primary will probably be scrapped this week because Sen. Hillary Clinton likely won't face her anti-war challenger.
Kris Hansen, executive director of New York's League of Women Voters, said a decision about the Sept. 6 matchup must be made by tomorrow because the lead time needed to set up a broadcast of the debate is running out.

"It's a shame that one group would get to control the information, whether it gets out," Hansen said. "Our goal is simply to provide information to the voting public."

The Presidential Ambitions of Hillary Clinton.
Dejarse llevar por preconcebidas opiniones sobre la novata senadora de Nueva York, a favor o en contra, es caer en riesgo de equivocarse sobre la persona de quien se habla como la principal candidata del Partido Demócrata a la presidencia en el 2008.

FOR THE RECORD

There was never much doubt that Hillary Clinton would get District Council 37's endorsement in her bid for a second term as U.S. Senator. For one thing, she's regarded as a shoo-in, and DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts's fondness for incumbents who might help her union is exceeded only by her fondness for those who are sure things.

But an indication that there would be an open process before deciding on an endorsement has left some hard feelings among both some DC 37 activists and the camp of Ms. Clinton's opponent in the Sept. 12 Democratic primary, Jonathan Tasini.

Chill, Hil, no one's declaring war on you here

Sen. Hillary Clinton can sleep easy: the anti-war activists who mobilized to take down Joe Lieberman say they have no plans to come after her next.
"We're not hearing a whole lot from our members in New York about the race," said Eli Pariser, 25, executive director of MoveOn.org.

"Sen. Clinton [D-N.Y.] does appear to be listening to her constituents," Pariser said, mentioning her call last week for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's resignation.
