New York City (12-20-05): Press Statement on the Transit Strike From U.S. Senate Candidate Jonathan Tasini:

"I fully support the Transit Workers Union’s actions and its right to strike. I hope all New Yorkers rally to the side of the striking workers. The people of New York City need to keep in mind that, while they are also experiencing disruption in their daily lives, the strike is ultimately about protecting a decent living for all workers. The MTA is trying to impose a two-tier wage system which would mean that all future transit workers would live a lower standard of living. That trend endangers all workers’ pursuit of the American Dream. The MTA, Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Pataki are trying to break the back of a largely minority, progressive union in order to scare other unions from demanding too much at the bargaining table.
