Primary foe rips Hil on Israel
By Helen Kennedy

Hillary Clinton's primary opponent lashed out at the senator over Israel yesterday, blaming the deaths of 37 children in Qana on her refusal to push for a ceasefire.
"She, and a broad segment of our political leadership, bear responsibility for the deaths ofthese children," Democrat Jonathan Tasini said in a statement. The youngsters were among about 60 civilians killed in Israel's weekend strike on the southern Lebanese town of Qana.

"Rather than call for restraint, Hillary Clinton stopped just short of declaring, 'Let the bombs fall.'"

MASHAD HANGINGS ANNIVERSARY MARKED IN MIDTOWN VIGIL

Roughly 50 people held a vigil in Midtown Manhattan near Iran’s Mission to the United Nations to mark the one-year anniversary of the hanging of two Iranian teenagers who were killed, participants said, because they were gay.

“We need to show solidarity,” said Frank Jump, a teacher and longtime gay and AIDS activist, at the July 19 event. The Manhattan vigil was one of at least 27 that were held around the globe to mark the executions.

Marist Poll
July 20, 2006 at 10:30 am by Elizabeth Benjamin
Here’s the latest, widely-cited, Marist poll, in case you haven’t seen it.

The U.S. Senate numbers, on both sides, are most interesting.

In the GOP arena, KT McFarland has lost ground to John Spencer since the publication all those stories about her family troubles. But 47 percent of Republicans (in the very small sample of 236 voters) remain undecided.

Of course, if she can’t raise enough money to remain viable, then this whole conversation is moot, no?

Sure, it’s well within the margin of error, but it is still worth noting that the new WNBC/Marist poll shows that Jonathan Tasini is doing better against his 400-pound Democratic gorilla than Tom Suozzi is doing against his.

Mr. Tasini, the anti-war candidate challenging Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, would get the support of 13 percent of the registered Democrats polled.

A primary is just the ticket for Hillary Clinton
July 19, 2006

Sen. Hillary Clinton was having a pretty cool day Monday, even for the world's most famous woman and the far-out-front-runner for her party's 2008 presidential nod.

That morning, Rupert Murdoch, the conservative founder of the Fox News Network, whose biggest stars bash her on TV for a living, held a fundraiser for the supposedly (but not) liberal Democrat at his Manhattan digs. Later, she was cheered at a pro-Israel rally organized by Jewish groups that once booed her.
