Hil foe eyes Conn. race
Tasini covets support from anti-Joe crew

Sen. Hillary Clinton's little-noticed primary foe is watching the remarkable political upset unfolding in Connecticut with envy - and some hope.

Jonathan Tasini's long-shot anti-war Democratic primary challenge to Clinton hasn't taken off the way Ned Lamont's long-shot anti-war Democratic primary challenge to Sen. Joe Lieberman did. But Tasini thinks that could soon change.

From The Independent:

Thousands to march in support of immediate ceasefire

The largest peace march since before the Iraq invasion is expected to descend upon Downing Street today demanding that Tony Blair calls for an unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.

In a powerful demonstration of the groundswell of opinion across Britain, as many as 100,000 people are predicted to take to the streets around Parliament Square.

As Mr Blair was this week forced to concede that even members of his cabinet had "doubts" over his handling of the situation, protesters will deliver children's shoes to his London home to represent those whose lives have been lost in the 24-day conflict.

NY Daily News: Primary foe rips Hil on Israel

Submitted by Stephanie Cannon on August 1, 2006 - 2:55pm.

From Helen Kennedy's latest in the NY Daily News today:

Hillary Clinton's primary opponent lashed out at the senator over Israel yesterday, blaming the deaths of 37 children in Qana on her refusal to push for a ceasefire.

"She, and a broad segment of our political leadership, bear responsibility for the deaths ofthese children," Democrat Jonathan Tasini said in a statement. The youngsters were among about 60 civilians killed in Israel's weekend strike on the southern Lebanese town of Qana.

"Rather than call for restraint, Hillary Clinton stopped just short of declaring, 'Let the bombs fall.'"

The NY Times Endorses Ned Lamont

Submitted by Stephanie Cannon on July 30, 2006 - 10:57am.

In an encouraging development, the New York Times has endorsed the anti-war candidate Ned Lamont, the insurgent challenging Joe Lieberman for U.S. Senate from Connecticut. Stating that "this primary would never have happened absent Iraq," the editorial cites a series of examples of Senator Lieberman cozying up to the Bush administration.

Now we'd like to know when the NY Times will notice that there is a Democratic primary race in New York. A search of the Times for tasini+senate yields eight articles since Jonathan announced his candidacy in December. A similar search for lamont+senate reveals 32 articles since February. But who's counting.
