"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it… Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.... The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation." - Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.

...and turning the other cheek is a great way to get hit again.

Sustainable peace is only achieved after complete victory.

"Complete victory" is an illusion. What you really mean is complete destruction. King's point is proven correct by your statement: that violence begets more violence. Think about it.

Violence doesn't breed more violence. Inept, poorly, thought out violence (i.e. what we've done in Iraq) breeds more violence. Well thought-out, expertly executed violence doesn't breed more violence, because the other guys are either all dead or too terrified and cowed to fight back (see WWII).
