MANCHESTER, N.H. - Anti-war and anti-Bush fervor is growing among rank and file Democrats, threatening to pull the party to the left and creating a rift between increasingly belligerent activists and the party's leaders in Washington.

Many outside-the-Beltway Democrats want the party to turn forcefully against the war in Iraq and to investigate, censure or even impeach President Bush should the party win control of Congress this fall.

Yet party leaders such as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York have maintained support for the war while criticizing the way Bush handled it, and have shied away from talk of using power to go to after him.

Pollster: Iraq war will hurt GOP in fall elections
June 2, 2006

MACKINAC ISLAND – The war in Iraq has become so unpopular that it could cost Republicans control of Congress, statehouses and governor races around the country, national pollster John Zogby said Friday.

He said 70% of voters believe the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction, adding, “I have never seen a number like that since I’ve been polling.”

He said 68% of voters believe the war in Iraq wasn’t worth the loss of American lives. He added, “Americans want their wars to be won, they want it won quickly and their troops home and out of harms way.”

What Bush Should Have Said
by Missy Comley Beattie

I was asked to speak Saturday on behalf of Gold Star Families for Peace at Veteran’s Park in Highland Falls, NY during a protest rally while George W. Bush delivered the commencement address to the graduating class of the United States Military Academy.

Jonathan Tasini, my candidate for the US Senate, stood with me, holding a picture of my nephew. This is my speech:

Kudos to the cadets and their parents. I wish them peace. One of their own was just killed. West Point graduate Capt. Doug DiCenzo died Thursday when his Humvee hit a roadside bomb.
